Ben Mbala anchored La Salle to its 10th straight win over NU

The 2016 Mayhem tour continues for the Green and White, as the De La Salle Green Archers dominated the National University Bulldogs, 113-88, Wednesday in the UAAP 79 Men’s Basketball Tournament at the San Juan Arena.

With the win, La Salle stayed on top with a perfect 10-0 record.

NU actually led by as many as 10 points during the early parts of the game, but La Salle quickly rallied. The first quarter ended, 24-23 in favor of the boys from Taft.

La Salle tried to break the game wide-open during the second quarter, but the Bulldogs fought back, as the first half ended with a 56-49 lead for the Archers.

The Archers remained in control of the game during the third quarter, but NU kept within striking distance during the third quarter, which ended in favor of the Archers, 85-75. But La Salle just flat out dominated the final period, as they outscored the Bulldogs, 28-13.

Ben Mbala dominated once again for the Archers, as he finished with 29 points, and 14 rebounds. Rookie Aljun Melecio had a career high of 18 points, which included 4 triples, Veterans Jeron Teng and Thomas Torres contributed as well as they finished with 13 and 12 points respectively.

Jess Diputado scored 23 points, while Jay Jay Alejandro finished with 17 points for the Bulldogs who falls down to 4-6 record.
