Courtesy of a balanced attack, the Adamson University Soaring Falcons held on to beat the National University Bulldogs, 83-76, in Sunday UAAP Season 80 action at th Mall of Asia arena in Pasay city.
Cameroonian center Papi Sarr led four Falcons in double figures with 19 points to go along with 13 rebounds while point guard Jerie Pingoy chipped in 12 markers, five assists and six steals.
After a tied first quarter, the Falcons pulled away in the second quarter thanks to Pinggoy and timely scoring from wing Jonathan Espeleta to put Adamson up by 11 points, 43-32, at halftime. The Bulldogs would could the lead to as little as seven points in the last two minutes after a JJ Alejandro jumper, 81-74, but the Falcons would hold on for the victory.
Star guard Alejandro was the long Bulldog in double figures as he paced NU with 25 points along with seven rebounds and four assists.
Adamson and NU now have a similar 2-2 standing. The Falcons’ next assignment will be the University of the East Red Warriors on October 1, Sunday at 4 pm at the Araneta Coliseum while the Bulldogs will look to bounce back against the Ateneo de Manila Blue Eagles, September 30, Saturday at the same venue.
