Thanks to a dominating third quarter, the Adamson Soaring Falcons outpowered the University of Santo Tomas Growling Tigers, 79-52, in the final game day of the first round of eliminations of UAAP Season 79, Wednesday afternoon at the Mall of Asia arena in Pasay city.
From a 33-29 halftime lead, the Falcons pushed their advantage to as much as 27 points after outscoring the Tigers 26-8 in the third period led by Jerrick Ahamnisi, Nicho Paranada and Sean Manganti.
UST would never recover as they couldn’t trim the lead to lower than 17 points.
Papi Sarr led the Falcons with 16 points and 25 monster rebounds to go along with four blocks while their main gunner Ahamnisi had 11 points. The scarcely used Paranada was also crucial in the win as he made the most of his given minutes and finished with 14 points, three assists and four steals.
Rob Manalang also chipped in 10 points and seven assists.
“We deserved this win. We just worked hard today,” said the Cameroonian Sarr. “We made mistakes against UE and coach just told us to bounce back today.”
“We got frustrated the last time around. We have to give credit to our guys,” said Falcons head coach Franz Pumaren. “This is a good springboard for us coming into the second round.”
For UST, Kent Lao paced them with 13 pointd and eight rebounds while Marvin Lee chipped in 10 points amd four rebounds.
UST is now 2-5 in the win-loss column while Adamson stands at 4-3.
