Even with a late Stags run, the Adamson Soaring Falcons managed to fend off the San Sebastian College-Recoletos Stags, 64-61 in the 2017 Filoil Flying V Premier Cup. Wednesday afternoon at the Filoil Flying V center in San Juan.
After leading by as much as 12 in the first half, the the Falcons saw their lead turn into a seven point deficit, 54-61, at the 2:54 mark as the Stags went on a 23-9 rally led by sophomore guard RK Ilagan who hit three-pointers in the said stretch. Adamson, however, ended the game on a 10-0 rally led by floor general Rob Manalang, athletic forward Sean Manganti and gunner Jerrick Ahanmisi.
Manganti tallied 19 points, four rebounds and two steals for the Falcons who lost last game’s leading scorer Dawn Ochea to a knee injury in the second quarter. Ahanmisi chipped in 13 markers while Manalang added 12 points and two assists.
For the Stags, Michael Calisaan scored 15 while Ryan Costelo, whi was ejected in the fourth quarter, finished with 14 points and three assists. The diminutive spitfire guard Ilagan finished with nine points.
The win propels Adamson to the top of Group B with a 2-0 standing while the Stags drop to 0-1.
