Courtesy of the hot shooting of Jerrick Ahanmisi, the Adamson University (AdU) Soaring Falcons fought off the defending NCAA champions Collegio San Juan de Letran (CSJL) Knights, 83-78, in the Filoil Flying V Premiere Preseason Cup at the Filoil Flying V center in San Juan, Thursday.

Ahanmisi, who scored 17 points in the first half via four three pointers, continued his scorching form in the second half as he finished with 26 points on a 5-of-7 shooting clip from beyond the arc along with five rebounds, three assists, and two steals.

After a close first half that ended 47-41, the Soaring Falcons pulled away in the third quarter and went on a run that resulted to their biggest lead of the game of 17, 67-50, at the 2:36 mark. The defending champion Knights, however, fought their way back in the fourth quarter as they managed to cut the lead to as small as four points, 77-73, with 3:43 minutes to play– forcing Adamson to a timeout.

A 6-2 run that followed enabled the Falcons to push the lead back to eight, 83-75, at the 1:31 mark and the Knights wouldn’t score again until the final 20 seconds of the game.

For Letran, a double-double effort of 18 points and 11 rebounds from Rey Nambatac proved to be in vain as they have now dropped to 1-2.
