SINGAPORE – After starting the season with three straight losses, Tanduay Alab Pilipinas now has collected three straight wins after beating the Singapore Slingers in overtime, 89-90, Sunday afternoon in the ASEAN Basketball League tournament at the OCBC Arena in Singapore.

Alab had the chance to win in regulation after Rob Celiz’s three point basket with 50.2 seconds to go. But AJ Mandani found himself wide open for a three point basket after an offensive rebound by Chris Charles with only 12 seconds remaining.

Justin Brownlee scored four straight points to start the overtime that set the tone for the visiting Alab Pilipinas team to pull away from the Slingers. Bobby Ray Parks Jr capped off that crippling 9-0 run in overtime with a three-point play off a foul by Singapore’s heritage import and Filipino-American AJ Mandani.

Renaldo Balkman paced Alab with 26 points and hauled down 8 rebounds while Justin Brownlee had another all-around performance with 17 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists. Pamboy Raymundo and Lawrence Domingo provided the spark off the bench as they combined for 17 points for Alab.

New Slingers import Chris Charles led the Slingers 22 points, 11 rebounds and 4 blocks but committed 6 of the team’s 16 turnovers.

The win enabled Alab Pilipinas to move up to solo fourth in the team standings with a 3-3 record.
