Powered by its drive to provide proper nutrition and promote a healthy active lifestyle through sports, Alaska Milk Corporation launched its 2016 Alaska Power Camps at the Holiday Inn Hotel in Makati.
The Alaska Power Camps are various sports clinics held every summer that started back in 1994 and they cater to kids as young as 3 years old who want to learn the fundamentals of the sport. In addition to developing a child’s skills, the camps teaches the values of discipline, determination, hard work, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
Currently, the three sports disciplines under the Alaska Sports Camp are Basketball, Volleyball, and Football.
For Alaska, the Power Camps is more than just a business. It is also Alaska’s contribution to Philippine sports in the grassroots level. “During the lowest years of Volleyball and Football, it was only Alaska who continued to invest into the sports without thinking what it could get out of it.” says Blen Fernando, Vice President for Marketing of Alaska. “We look at this not just for brand building of Alaska but as a commitment to nation building” adds Fernando.
Moreover, running the youth sports programs of Alaska is built around the company’s values. “We want quality, professionalism, and most of all we want to run the sports with total integrity” states Blen Fernando.
Leading the various power camps are notable personalities from their respective sports. Leading the Basketball Power Camp is Jeffrey Cariaso, who is a former PBA rookie of the year and a member of Alaska’s grand slam champion team in 1996. He will be assisted by Dondon Hontiveros, Topex Robinson, and Rodney Santos. Tomas Lozano will spearhead the Football camp. Lozano is the Tournament Director of the annual Alaska Football Cup and the Director of Alabang and Makati Football School. Lastly, former De La Salle Lady Spiker and UAAP Finals MVP Michelle Gumabao will lead the Alaska Volleyball Power Camp.
