Arellano University boosted its campaign for the NCAA Season 91 Men’s Basketball Division Final Four after blowing out a huge 91-72 win over blurring San Beda College on Thursday, at the FilOil Flying V Arena, San Juan.
The breakaway triumph allowed the Chiefs to snap their two-game skidding mark and set the tone for a hopeful 11-6 win-loss record to share the third seed with University of Perpetual Help System-Dalta and Jose Rizal University.
Gilas cadet Jiovani Jalalon mixed the rhythm up for Arellano with his 25 markers, 11 points of which set down in the first quarter alone to basically tune up a 9-point lead that began the romp of Coach Jerry Codiniera’s cagers.
Jalalon further completed his statistics mark with 7 rebounds and 8 assists for the Legarda-based Chiefs.
The Chiefs are expected to next face cellar-dweller Emilio Aguinaldo College next week, and if they trounce the Generals permanently, Arellano would earn a playoff to seat in the Final Four contention.
In addition to Jalalon, Allen Enriquez and Brylle Meca also finished with 15 and 11 points, respectively.
San Beda, which overcame a backbreaking rally by Mapua last week, saw its winning momentum blur as the Red Lions dropped to their 12-5 win-loss card to be demoted on the second place behind the Letran Knights (12-4).
Nigerian import Ola Adeogun scored 17 points, while Arth Dela Cruz only capped off with 10 markers, not to mention the 7 turnovers he had committed throughout the match.
