Ateneo Escapes FEU for Third Straight Win

The Ateneo Lady Eagles posted their third consecutive win after defeating the FEU Lady Tamaraws in straight sets, 25-22, 25-19, 25-15, in front of more than 5000 spectators yesterday at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Team Captain Alyssa Valdez scored 15 points, from 13 kills, a block and an ace—while Maddie Madayag helped with 11, and Jhoana Maraguinot with 10 from 9 attacks.

The Lady Eagles sailed smoothly in the first set, creating a 10-point lead over FEU, but the gap disappeared after an FEU chase—swaying their way to 22-24, in favor of Ateneo, before Bea De Leon ended the bout at 25-22.

Ateneo hammered 42 attacks in the game against FEU’s only 25, and Jia Morado outscored FEU’s Gyzelle Sy with 38 excellent sets, where the latter posted only 13.

FEU collected their scores from Toni Basas and Jerrili Malabanan with 12 and 10, respectively while the rest of the Morayta-squad combined for 14.

Ateneo tops the standings with a 3-0 record, FEU drops to 1-2 and will battle the Rondina-Laure tandem of UST this Saturday at the Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
