Ateneo took the women’s solo lead in the UAAP Season 78 beach volleyball tournament as Alyssa Valdez and Bea Tan turned back Adamson University’s Mylene Paat and Jessica Galanza, 21-13, 21-15, yesterday at the jampacked Sands SM By The Bay.
Tan spelled the difference for the Lady Eagles as she helped Valdez with her impressive defense and well-placed shots to pin the Lady Falcons first loss after a three-game winning run.
De La Salle, however, foiled arch-rival Ateneo’s march to the semifinals as Cyd Demecillo and Kim Fajardo defeated Valdez and Tan in come-from-behind 11-21, 21-16, 15-12 victory in the afternoon session.
The Lady Eagles now have four wins against a loss after the first three days of competitions.

The Lady Spikers, who joined the Tigresses in fourth place at 3-2, blasted the Lady Warriors, 21-10, 21-9, in the morning session.
The Lady Bulldogs and the Lady Maroons fell to 1-3 in joint sixth. UE, meanwhile, bowed out of contention with its five straight loss.
