University of Santo Tomas is finally back in the UAAP Seniors Basketball Division Final Four as the Growling Tigers defeated University of the Philippines, 83-76, in the league’s Season 78 on Sunday, at the Mall of Asia Arena, Pasay.
The win sent the Growling Tigers to an instant Final Four spot this Season behind fellow contender and top seeder Far Eastern University, which holds a 9-1 win-loss card.
Despite enduring a huge loss to Ateneo previously, UST had a quick recovery and got back on track just in time to clinch one of the coveted spots in the nearing UAAP semifinals contention.
Veteran and team captain Kevin Ferrer finished with a career-high, double-double of 29 points and 14 rebounds which was too much to stop and handle for the Season 78 host UP Maroons.
This also served as a big comeback for the UST Tigers after being ousted in the Final Four stint last Season 77.
Additional kills were taken from Louie Vigil with 16 points, while Ed Daquioag contributed 15 markers for the second seeded Growling Tigers.
On the other hand, UP’s scoring machine Jett Manuel had 21 points to keep the Fighting Maroons moving, but State U still fell short with a 3-7 win-loss record.
