Bohol’s Bellevue Resort hosts 5150 triathlon

Over 600 triathletes will troop to one of the country’s top diving destinations as they compete the Bellevue 5150 triathlon to be held at the posh Bellevue Resort in Panglao, Bohol.

Top triathletes from Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Europe, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, the Netherlands, Singapore, South Africa, Spain, Switzerland, Taiwan, United Kingdom and the United States are also joining the 1.5km swim, 40km bike and 10km run race which has a $2,000 prize for the top pro finishers. Meanwhile, top male and female Filipino elite finishers will pocket P30,000 each.

Leading the pack are defending champions Sam Betten and Dimity-Lee Duke of Australia. Betten and Duke are both members of Alaska Tri-Aspire Triathlon team being backed by Alaska Milk.

The six-foot-four Betten will have to go past Germany’s Henry Beck and Philippine-based Australian Daniel Garry Brown to retain his title. In the distaff side, Duke will defend her title against New Zealand’s Amelia Watkinson, and Aussies Michelle Duffield and Rebecca Ohlwein.

Expect fireworks in the Filipino Elite category men’s division as last year’s winner Paul Jumamil will go up against August Benedicto, John “Rambo” Chicano, and Banjo Norte. Former olympian Jenny Rose Guerrero will try to defend her Bohol 5150 Filipino Elite women’s crown against Amale Jopson and Aimee Dequia.

Adding spice to the event is the inclusion of the Sunrise Sprint, which had a huge success in its first venture held in Subic last June. Sunrise Sprint us a sub-category of the Bellevue 5150 event featuring a 750m swim, 20km bike and 5km run.

The Bellevue 5i50 also caps SEI’s triathlon calendar for the year that included the Century Tuna Ironman 70.3 and the Alaska Ironkids in Subic, the Alaska Ironkids Aquathlon at The Village Sports Club in Paranaque and Subic, the Regent 5i50 Triathlon, also in Subic the Cobra Ironman 70.3 Asia-Pacific Championship and the Alaska Ironkids Triathlon in Cebu.
