BREAKING: Sunrise Events announces full distance IRONMAN race for next year

Finally, the long wait is over.

After months of speculation within the local triathlon community, Sunrise Events Inc. has finally announced the staging of the grandest triathlon event in the country that will happen on June 3, 2018 in Subic Bay.

It all started with a social media post by Sunrise Events Inc. General Manager Princess Galura several months ago hinting of a special “announcement” to be made for triathletes this August. It quickly turned into speculations that a full distance Ironman will be finally held in the Philippines.

Not waiting anymore for August, the announcement of Century Tuna Ironman Philippines 2018 has been officially made and is now part of the Ironman Race Calendar. The physically grueling 3.8Km swim,  180Km bike and 42Km run race coincides with Sunrise Events’ 10th year anniversary and 10 years of staging the Ironman 70.3 in the country.

The growth of the sport of triathlon in the country has exponentially increased over the past few years. With only 583 participants in the inaugural Ironman 70.3 race in Camarines Sur back in 2009, last year’s Ironman 70.3 Asia Pacific Championship race held in Cebu brought close to 3,000 participants. Not to mention, the registration for the said event closed within 28 minutes after it was opened.

According to the Ironman website, the inaugural Century Tuna Ironman will begin with a one-loop, 3.8km ocean swim in the calm, pristine waters of Triboa Bay, starting and finishing at ACEA Resort which will also play host to the first of the split transition areas. Once onto their bikes, athletes will head out of Subic Bay and onto the Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX) for a fast and flat two-loop, 180km ride which will bring riders back into the T2 at Remy Field in downtown Subic Bay. The 42.2km, two-loop marathon run will take in some of the best coastal views of Subic Bay.

Coming in as the proud title sponsor is Century Tuna, which has been a title sponsor of the Ironman 70.3 Subic since 2015 and 5150 races from 2012 – 2014. Vice President and General Manager of Century Pacific Food, Inc. Greg Banzon proudly shares the excitement with the triathlon community as Century Tuna continues its mission to inspire more Filipinos to pursue their own health and wellness journey.

“As a brand at the forefront of promoting health and fitness, Century Tuna is very proud to be the lead sponsor in finally staging a full distance IRONMAN in the Philippines in 2018. The expected scale and scope of attention the event will generate in the country and the global triathlon community gives us a very big stage to shout out our message of living a healthy lifestyle through proper diet and exercise.” said Banzon,  a triathlete himself who has represented the country in Ironman races in Korea, Malaysia and Australia. “We are also pleased that the event will give Filipinos a chance to witness the drama and glory of athletes completing the gruelling challenge of a full Ironman up close and hopefully inspire the entire Nation to be pursue their own fitness journey.” Banzon adds.

Registration starts on August 1, 2017. For more information on the 2018 Century Tuna Ironman race next year, visit their website at
