SURABAYA – Tanduay Alab Pilipinas snatched another road victory this time against the CLS Knights, 92-87, in the Asean Basketball League basketball tournament at the GOR CLS Kertajaya in Surabaya, Indonesia.
The CLS Knights found no answer to Justin Brownlee’s offensive onslaught as the 2-time Ginebra Governor’s Cup champion import scored 36 points, 18 in the first quarter, on 15-of-24 shooting from the field. He also had 8 rebounds, 7 assists and 3 steals. Brownlee also had zero turnovers in 37 minutes of action for Alab Pilipinas.
The win improved Alab Pilipinas’ win-loss record to 5-4, and currently is in fifth place in the team standings after a rough 0-3 start. Alab is now 4-1 since Justin Brownlee and Renaldo Balkman replaced Reggie Okosa and Ivan Johnson. Interestingly, Tanduay Alab Pilipinas is also 4-1 on the road while a miserable 1-3 at home.
Brownlee got ample support from fellow Alab world import Renaldo Balkman who had 17 points, 13 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals. Ray Parks and Josh Urbiztondo provided the local support as they combined for 25 points, including 5 three-point baskets.
Brian Williams led the Knights with 22 points and 14 rebounds. Sandy Kurniawan backed him up with 19 points, 15 coming from the three-point territory.
Alab will close their hectic January ABL schedule against Saigon Heat (Jan 28) at the CIS Arena in Ho Chi Minh City and Chongson Kung Fu (Jan 31) at home at the Sta Rosa Sports Complex in Laguna.
