Cycling enthusiasts enjoy weekend at BGC CycleAsia Philippines

Cyclists from all over the metro and nearby provinces got a taste of world class cycling event as the fourth edition of BGC CycleAsia Philippines was successfully held over the weekend at Bonifacio Global City in Taguig.

Participants got to enjoy riding their bikes on the major roads of the cities of Taguig, Makati, and Pasay which were momentarily closed to vehicular traffic.

The event gathered more than 1,500 cyclists of various skill levels and age, which was organized by Sunrise Events Inc. in partnership with BGC.

“We have been inspired by the huge turnout in the first three staging of the event and we expect another big field this weekend,” said Sunrise Events Inc. Founder Mr. Fred Uytengsu, during the event launch held last Friday at the Seda Hotel at BGC.

Young cyclists took centerstage on Saturday as hundreds of kids from as young as 2 years old participated in the Kid’s Ride and Tricycle Ride categories. Aside from the ride categories, kids and their family members enjoyed the rest of the morning as they were treated to various post event activities.

Sunday featured the 40km Challenge Ride and 20km Community and Foldies (folding bikes) Community Ride.

Cycling legend and three-time Tour de France Green Jersey Sprinters’ Classification champion Robbie McEwen graced the event as he joined several riders in the 40km “Ride with Robbie” category. The 44-year old Aussie is also on his fourth tour of duty for BGC CycleAsia Philippines having graced the event since its inception.

Apart from McEwen, other celebrities who graced the event were Philippine-based triathlete Daniel Garry Brown, PBA Player Bam Gamalinda, David’s Salon owner David Charlton, and Actress/Model Bubbles Paraiso.

BGC CycleAsia Philippines is an event organized by Sunrise Events Inc., which also stages other world-class events in the country such as Ironman, Ironkids, 5150, and Xterra.
