MANILA – Composure prevailed over heart on Saturday at the Araneta Coliseum.
In a highly emotional match in UAAP Season 79’s Final Four, the DLSU Lady Spikers overcame the UST Golden Tigresses in four sets, 25-14, 25-20, 24-26, 25-13.
It was a flawless game for the defending champions in the first set. From loaded services, strong spikes, to merciless blocks, they stunned the Golden Tigresses.
The second set was a better showing for UST, but La Salle capitalized on their errors to still claim the set.
Yet the shock of everyone came in the early goings of the third set when UST ace spiker EJ Laure went down with a right ankle sprain after an unfortunate collision at the net with DLSU’s Kim Dy. It was the same ankle injured by Laure in the fifth set of the match against the NU Lady Bulldogs.
Laure’s return in the latter part of the third set propelled her team to extend the match. However, DLSU was simply too strong and too good for their counterpart.
Five Lady Spikers scored in double digits, with Major Baron leading the way. She tallied 17 points in 13 attacks and four blocks.
With the win, DLSU qualifies for the Finals, and now awaits the winner of the Ateneo Lady Eagles and FEU Lady Tamaraws match up. On the other hand, UST still ended their Season 79 campaign as they successfully returned to the Final Four after missing action for six years.
