MANILA – It was a festive atmosphere at the Filoil Flying V Arena on Thursday when the huge crowd anticipated the much-awaited Philippine SuperLiga All-Filipino Conference championship match between F2 Logistics Cargo Movers and Foton Tornadoes.
With Jaja Santiago in their roster, the Foton Tornadoes were favored by some volleyball coaches to take Game 1 of the Finals series. However, F2 Logistics showed everyone how they have been dominating in the tournament with a thrilling five-set victory over their opponents, 25-20, 25-14, 9-25, 20-25, 15-10.
F2 Logistics banked on their relentless floor defense to take the first two sets of the match, even dominating the second set with a huge lead to send Foton in disarray.
Yet even with a major fight back of the Tornadoes in the third and fourth set, F2 Logistics showed composure and mastery of their craft to overwhelm Foton in the fifth and deciding set.
Multi-awarded superstar Aby Marano led the way for F2 Logistics with 17 points in 11 attacks, five blocks, and one service ace. Ara Galang also paced the team in crucial stretches of the match. She finished with game with nine points, 12 excellent digs, and 12 excellent receptions.
Golden Ticket recipient Kim Fajardo also tallied 40 excellent sets for F2 Logistics.
Meanwhile, the gallant effort put up by Cherry Ann Rondina and Jaja Santiago proved to be not enough to edge the well-cohesive unit of Coach Ramil De Jesus in their first Finals showdown. They finished with 22 and 19 points, respectively.
Game 2 of the Finals is on Saturday.
