FEU finally gets win number one under coach Olsen Racela in the UAAP as the Tamaraws outlast UE 90-83, Wednesday in the Season 80 Men’s Basketball Tournament at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The Morayta based cagers controlled the game from start to finish, as they finally broke into the win column.
Unlike their poor start against La Salle during the opening weekend, FEU started the game strong, building a double-digit lead as early as the first quarter 28-11.
Prince Orizu scored 10 points during the first quarter, with Ron Dennison contributing 7 markers in the first quarter alone. UE would make a rally during the second quarter, cutting the lead to single digits, before FEU regained their bearings. Halftime ended with FEU still in full control, 52-42.
It was more of the same during the third quarter. UE would fight back, but FEU had an answer for every Red Warrior rally. The third quarter ended, 75-64, still in favor of the green and gold. UE kept the game relatively close during the fourth quarter, but it is a case of too little, too late. The final score did not indicate how FEU controlled the entire game.
Dennison top scored for the Tamaraws with 16 points, Prince Orizu added 15 points, 16 rebounds, and Arvin Tolentino, Barkley Ebona and Richard Escoto chipped in 11 points a-piece.
Clark Derige was the lone bright spot for UE as he exploded for 22 big points. Alvin Pasaol scored 13 points, but he fouled out of the game. FEU goes up to 1-1 while UE falls to 0-2.
