FEU closes out UE, awaits Final Four fate

Thanks to Wendel Comboy and Axel Inigo, the Far Eastern University Tamaraws clamped down on the University of the East Red Warriors, 64-61, to close out the second round of eliminations of UAAP Season 79.

Trailing by nine points to the upset-minded Warriors at the start of the fourth quarter, FEU cut the lead to five, 59-64, at the 2:50 mark. The Tamawars then went on a game-clinching 10-0 rally sparked by Comboy who had five points and highlighted by an Inigo dagger three-pointer with 25 seconds remaining.

The young floor general Inigo finished with 16 points, six rebounds and four assists while the shooting guard Comboy scored 10 to go along with five boards and four dimes. Veteran big man Raymar Jose had a double-double of 10 markers and 12 boards.

For UE, Paul Varilla was the lone Warrior in double figures with 13 points to go along with five boards and two assists. UE also finishes at 7th place for the season with a 3-11 standing.

The Tamaraws will now await their fate in the semifinals and will see who will win against the Adamson Soaring Falcons and Ateneo Eagles in the next game.

If Adamson wins, FEU faces La Salle as they’ll be relegated to fourth place if that happens. If Ateneo wins, they’ll face Ateneo again in the semifinals.
