University of Santo Tomas Golden Tigeresses tasted their third straight defeat, kneeling before the Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws, 25-22, 25-18, 15-25, 25-23 in the UAAP Season 78 Women’s Volleyball Tournament at San Juan FilOil Arena, February 13.

Toni Rose Basas led the scoreboard for Lady Tamaraws finishing with game-high 19 points while Remy Joy Palma added 12 points.

Carmela Tunay, Cherry Ann Rondina and Ennajie Laure led the Tigeresses with double-digit scoring, chipping in 16, 14 and 10 points respectively but these weren’t enough to earn them their first win this season.

FEU followed closely behind, exchanging points with UST in the first set and tying the game at 22-22. However the Tigeresses made a fatal attack error during FEU’s set point, causing their efforts to collapse, 25-22.

The Lady Tamaraws played more comfortably in the second set, creating more solid plays getting them an easier win at 25-18.

But the Tigeresses are not easily giving up the game, attacking more aggressively in the third set. Tunay and Rondina hit back-to-back points for UST early in the set earning them a 3-point cushion, 5-8. The Lady Tamaraws tried to score back, but their attack and service errors further spread the score to 12-19. FEU’s net violation at the latter part of the set gave UST their set point while a score from Cortez’ block earned them the set, 15-25

Carrying on their momentum from the previous set, UST started strong in the fourth set posting a three-point lead, 5-8. However the Lady Tamaraws got back their footing and tied the score at 8-8. The two teams continued on exchanging blows, stealing the lead from each other until FEU hit four consecutive points, 23-21. UST managed to attack from the back row, 23-22 while Basas spiked the match point for FEU, 24-22. The Tigeresses desperately tried to catch up but another attack error sealed the game at 25-23.

FEU improved to 2-2 while UST remained winless after three matches.
