Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws made an impressive comeback in the latter sets to snatch a win from second seed De La Salle University Lady Spikers in a 5-set thrill, 15-25, 23-25, 25-23, 25-21, 16-14 in the semifinals of the UAAP Season 78 Women’s Volleyball Tournament Sunday at the Mall of Asia Arena, April 17.
Bernadeth Pons led the attack for FEU with 22 points from 20 kills, one block and one ace while Remy Palma and Toni Rose Basas contributed 18 and 17 points apiece.
After losing the first two sets, FEU turned the tables around on the next two and continued with their momentum on the final set to extend their season.
FEU took the lead on the fifth set with an off-the-block kill from Pons, 13-11 but the Lady Spikers immediately followed with back-to-back points to tie the game at 13-all.
Jerrili Malaban scored first match point for FEU, 14-13 but a service error tied the score again at 14-all. Two consecutive attack errors from La Salle’s side sealed the set at 16-14.
Kim Dy was the highest scorer for the Lady Spikers with 20 points while Ara Galang and Cyd Demecilio each had 14 points.
FEU will have to battle with again with La Salle on a do-or-die match on Wednesday due to the team’s twice to beat advantage to get a chance to face two-time defending champion Ateneo on the finals.
