Thanks to a monster game by Jiovanni Jalalon, the Arellano University (AU) Chiefs dominated the San Sebastian College- Recoletos (SSC-R) Golden Stags, 99-81, in the first round of eliminations of NCAA Season 93, at the Filoil Flying V center in San Juan, Friday.
Jalalon almost had a triple-double as he tallied 31 points, 12 assists and a career-high eight steals to seal the win.
“Kailangan lang namin dumepensa. Kaya ‘yun dumupensa na kaming mga guards and nakuha namin ryhthm namin,” Jalalon said when he was asked about his excellent output on defense.
The Chiefs led from to start to finish and led by as much as 20 points. The Stags, however, after finishing the third period 71-57, tried to make a comeback as they started the fourth period on a 12-4 run to cut the lead to six points, 75-69, at the 7:39 mark. It would be the closest San Sebastian could come.
Kent Salado, as usual, supported Jalalon as he chipped in 17 points, five rebounds and six assists while rookie big man Lervin Flores continues to shine with 10 points, 13 rebounds, four assists and two emphatic blocks for the Chiefs who are now 2-0 in the standings.
