Jerome Garcia led the Generals to victory, 85-72, after shining with a career-high 27 points against the Mapua Cardinals, yesterday in San Juan.
Garcia’s big game manifested in the first quarter where he scored 20 of the team’s 28 points with a 4/5 3-point field goal attempt.
Sidney Onwubere was the other go-to-guy for EAC with 16 points, 15 rebounds, two assists and a block; while Irvin Mendoza, Jeric Diego, and Francis Munsayac scored 9, 8 and 7, respectively.
EAC had a strong start with 12-5 thanks to back-to-back triples from Garcia, but Mapua danced their way to an 11-4 run and forced a stalemate at 16.
Garcia was on fire as he single-handedly converted ten points from two triples, two freebies, and a floater to pull away at 26-18.
The Cardinals were able to erase the lead in the second quarter, 30-all, but EAC was just too much for the cellar-dwelling Mapua as they jumped the margin to sixteen points, 53-37 with only 6.3 seconds left in the second frame.
The combined efforts of Laurenz Victoria, JB Raflores, and Almel Orquina with 15, 14, and 12 respectively, were not enough to bring down the Garcia-led Generals.
Mapua stays at the bottom of the standings with 1-11, and EAC ties Letran with 5-6.
