JRU Grabs Seventh Win, Remains at the Third Spot

Jose Rizal University seized their seventh win, 77-68, to keep the third spot in the standings of the NCAA Season 93 Men’s Basketball, yesterday at the San Juan Arena.

The first period displayed a low-scoring output from both teams as they struggled to convert baskets within ten minutes of action, 12-all to end the quarter.

JRU and Letran were head-to-head in the second frame with several deadlocks before the former powered a 10-0 run, 30-21, to dictate the tempo of the game.

Bong Quinto and Rey Nambatac tried to chase the lead back to a single digit, 33-27; and with three seconds left, Mark Dela Virgen extended the lead to nine from a corner triple, 36-27.

JRU controlled the third quarter and already seized the win after they bombed Letran with a 16-point gap, 47-31, mostly scoring from steals and turnovers.

In the final two minutes of the match, Letran was able to cut the lead by seven, 75-68, courtesy of a Nambatac long three.

Bong Quinto was fouled out with 13.5 seconds remaining, allowing JRU to escape victoriously with a 77-68 win.

Ervin Grospe and Teytey Teodoro called the shots for JRU with 15 points each, while Jed Mendoza and Mark Dela Virgen helped with 11 and 10, respectively.

JP Calvo topped all with 21 points and four rebounds while Nambatac, Quinto, and Balanza posted 14, 12, and 11.
