Jose Rizal University caused a 91-69 landslide win against San Sebastian College-Recoletos to nail a Final Four playoff spot in the NCAA Season 91 Seniors Basketball Division on Friday, at the FilOil Flying V Arena, San Juan.
The win extended JRU’s winning run to six, thereby securing at least a chance of staging in the most talked about Final Four contention.
Coach Vergel Meneses’ dribblers did not seem to be at risk throughout the game as they posted a premature lead despite the Stags’ gritty effort in the first canto.
JRU led by 5 points, 43-38, and this was when Paolo Pontejos exploded with a huge 12-point hammer in the second period to basically settle the outcome of the lopsided match.
Pontejos made an overall mark of 23 points, followed by Estrella with 11 markers for the JRU Heavy Bombers.
Meanwhile, PBA-bound Bradwyn Guinto scored 14 points, while Michael Calisaan had 13 hits, but all in a losing effort for the San Sebastian Stags.
