A completely different outcome from their first round meeting, De La Salle Green Archers dominated the University of the East Red Warriors, 95-66 on Wednesday in the UAAP 79 Men’s Basketball Tournament at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
La Salle is now on a 12 game unbeaten run, and they are poised on sweeping the season.
Ben Mbala had another monster game with 26 points, 20 rebounds and 4 blocks, while Jeron Teng added 20 points and Thomas Torres chipped in 11 points.
La Salle started the game on a 7-0 run, as it was a coast-to-coast victory for the Green and White. Ben Mbala dominated the paint from the very start of the game, scoring 10 in the first quarter.
UE fought back during the second quarter, but the Archers were simply too much. The first half ended, 37-27 in favor of La Salle.
DLSU superstars Ben Mbala and Jeron Teng teamed up during the third quarter to put the game out of reach. Mbala scored 12 points and Jeron scored 10 points during the third quarter, third period ended with the Archers in complete control, 70-48.
Alvin Pasaol was the lone bright spot for UE finishing the game with 17 points.
Considered by some as a Final Four dark horse before the start of the season, UE falls down to 2-9 and are now eliminated from Final Four contention.
