De La Salle University flat out dominated the hapless UST Growling Tigers, 94-59 in the UAAP 80 Men’s Basketball Tournament, on Sunday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
La Salle goes up to 10-2, ensuring at least a playoff for the coveted twice-to-beat advantage.
After a close first quarter, La Salle blew the game wide-open during the second period, out-scoring the Tigers, 25-8.
Ricci Rivero exploded during the second quarter, scoring 11 points.
The third quarter was pure domination for the Taft-based squad, It was Prince Rivero’s time to shine during the third period, as he scored 6 points during the third quarter while Aljun Melecio hit two triples during that quarter.
It was just too late for the Tigers to mount up a rally, as La Salle sent the shock troopers during the fourth quarter, as DLSU did just enough during the final period to cruise to another easy win.
Ben Mbala scored 19 points and 9 rebounds, Ricci Rivero added 16 points Jollo Go made 4 triples to finish with 12 points and Prince Rivero chipped in 10 points for La Salle.
Marvin Lee finished with 25 points, while Steve Akomo chipped in 14 points for UST.
The Tigers remains winless in 12 games, and are in danger of going 0-14 for the season.
