FEU snatched the momentum in the second period with a score of 8-6 from a Galang service error to lead in the first technical timeout. It was an exchange of lead in the following minutes, afterwhich FEU’s Heather Guino-o scored back-to-back aces added by an opponent error to shy away with a four-point lead, 22-18. The Lady Spikers clawed their way to cut the deficit, firing five straight points; and with La Salle back on the lead, 24-23, FEU called out to key offensive players Basas and Pons to make the shots, but a Mika Reyes-block and a Palma error had the Lady Spikers take the third set point. An ace by Demecillo closed the set and had La Salle lead two sets to none.
The Animo volleybelles were cruising smoothly in the third set, leading by as much as nine points, 18-9, with the last two points courtesy of aces from the DLSU Captain. FEU was able to chase the lead to three, 24-21, before a crucial service ace from La Salle ended the knockout match.
Service aces played a key role in DLSU’s win as they posted 13 compared to the Lady Tamaraws’ 7.
Bernadeth Pons and Toni Basas scored 10 each, while Remy Palma and Heather Guino-o had 9 and 6, respectively. The rest of the members combined for five points.
