MANILA — The De La Salle Lady Spikers pick up where they left off.
To formally begin their title defense in UAAP Season 79, the ladies from Taft showed composure and dominance on Sunday as they open rout a feisty FEU Lady Tamaraws team in straight sets, 29-27, 25-22, 25-23.
Despite losing seasoned veterans Ara Galang, Mika Reyes, and Cyd Demicillo this season, the Lady Spikers proved that they can still play at a highly competitive level in the league.
La Salle’s offense remains lethal with team skipper Kim Fajardo masterfully orchestrating their players. The graduating player tallied 35 excellent in the match.
Major Baron led the scoring barrage with 15 points, while last year’s Finals MVP Kim Dy chipped in 11 points.
FEU, however, was not one to be shoved around.
Amidst the lost, the Lady Tamaraws fought through La Salle’s challenge in every set. Bernadeth Pons top scored for the Morayta-based squad with 12 points. Jerrili Malabanan added seven markers.
The Lady Spikers will face the UST Golden Tigresses on Saturday, 4pm, while the Lady Tamaraws will try to bounce back against the Adamson Lady Falcons on Wednesday at 2pm. Both games will be played at the Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.
