In one of the grittiest games of the season so far, the De La Salle Green Archers fended off the Adamson Soaring Falcons, 80-74, Saturday in the UAAP 80 Men’s Basketball Tournament at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
It was a playoff type atmosphere type of a ball game, because the teams were fighting for the second seed slot, which has a twice-to-beat advantage.
It was a very emotional game with a lot of hard fouls and taunting both from the players and the crowd. Adamson took control of the game early on in the 1st quarter, as they led by as many as 9 points during the opening period.
It was the Leonard Santillian show during the third period, as he scored 9 points during that quarter and DLSU finally tasted the lead in the game.
The Archers led by as many as 8 points during the final period but the Falcons kept the game close because of the hot three-point shooting of Jerrick Ahanmisi and Robbie Manalang but in the end, the Archers executed better down the stretch to pull off the gritty win.
Ricci Rivero finished the game with 17 points meanwhile Leonard Santillian had his break out game as he scored 16 points and 10 rebounds in just 16 minutes of action.
Ben Mbala had another “double-double” game of 15 points, 17 rebounds and 5 blocks for La Salle who now remains in solo second place with an 8-2 record.
Jerrick Ahanmisi top scored for Adamson with 17 points, Papi Sarr finished with 17 points and 12 rebounds, Jonathan Espeleta had 12 points and Robbie Manalang added 11.
Adamson falls down to 6-4.
