La Salle narrowly survives a surging FEU rally, 75-73, on Wednesday in the UAAP 80 Men’s Basketball Tournament at the Araneta Coliseum.
DLSU tried to break the game wide open during the second quarter, as the Archers built a huge 16-point lead thanks to Ricci Rivero was on fire during the second quarter, as he made 12 points during the second period alone, which included 2 highlight-worthy dunks. Ricci finished the first half with 15 points.
However, FEU made a huge run to end the first half. The first half ended, 39-35 in favor of the green and white.
La Salle was in control for most of the second half, but it just can’t pull away against the stubborn Tamaraws.
In the dying seconds of the game. the Tamaraws went down low to Prince Orizu, who made a slam dunk to cut the lead to just 1, 74-73.
Ricci was then fouled and his first free throw but intentionally missed the second, but was called for a violation, allowing Coach Olsen Racela to call a timeout and set up one final play for FEU with 2 seconds remaining.
Unfortunately for the Tamaraws, FEU failed to execute in their final possession, as the Archers came up with the steal, and the victory.
Coming off a huge game against Ateneo, Ricci Rivero continued his high-scoring ways, as he finished with a game-high 20 points.
Ben Mbala had another monster game of 18 points and 17 rebounds and Jollo Go once again waxed hot from downtown, making 4 triples as he finished with 14 points.
With the win, La Salle is now in solo second place with a solid 6-2 record, while FEU falls to 4-4 in a tie with UP for fourth place.
Ken Tuffin led the Tamaraws with 14 points, Hubert Cani added 13 points while Ron Dennsion finished with 10 markers.
