The LPU Pirates were too much for their Intra-neighbors as they paraded their dominance with a 97-74 victory against the Mapua Cardinals to climb at 9-0, Friday at the Flying V Centre in San Juan.
Ralph Tansingco opened the game with a triple to heat up the floor after two minutes of slow basketball exchange.
Mapua’s Almel Orquina tried to counter with his own three which led to a failed attempt but Jeffrey Santos was able to convert his triple to lead at 7-0.
JB Raflores finally scored for the Cardinals at the 6-minute mark and Christian Bunag was able to hit two freebies, 7-4.
Lyceum twins’ JV and JC Marcelino combined their efforts to escape at 20-8 with only 30 seconds left.
Mapua’s Kim Magboo attempted to stop a Reymar Caduyac-jumper but lost control of his landing—he was stretchered out of the court after the first quarter.
LPU’s CJ Perez topped the board with 18 points and seven rebounds in which 16 points came from the first half with three assists and two steals.
Christian Bunag posted double-double with 17 points and fourteen rebounds while JB Raflores, JP Nieles, and Leo Gabo each had 16, 13, and 10 respectively in the losing effort.
