Mapua extended its winning run after blowing upset to the struggling College of St.Benilde, 76-64, on Friday at the NCAA Season 91 Men’s Basketball Division at the FilOil Flying V Arena, San Juan.
Despite missing out Coach Atoy Co’s shots due to a one-game suspension sanction, the Cardinals still looked in a finer shape and edged out the Blazers for their fourth win in seven outings.
Allwell Oraeme dished 19 points and 20 rebounds, followed by Darell Menina with 13 hits and Josan Nimes added 11 for the Season 91 host Mapua.
Aside from Coach Atoy Co’s absence, the Cardinals also played undermanned as Andretti Stevens was out due to a suspension plus the untimely injuries of stalwarts Josan Nimes and CJ Isit during the game.
However, the heavy dilemma did not hinder Mapua from keeping its morale alive.
Isit had to permanently sit out from the game during the second half after he suffered a bad fall and twisted his elbow.
But still, the Cardinals simply refused to let their momentum and guard down despite the incident and amassed a 22-point landslide gap over the Blazers en route to their victory.
On the other hand, the College of St.Benilde Blazers sank to their 2-6 record and relied on Jonathan Grey and Jay Domingo with 14 points apiece.
