MANILA — The Petron Blaze Spikers went in The Arena at San Juan on Thursday night with a single goal in mind — end the season with a championship trophy in their hands. For a moment, many thought that it would actually happen.
That was until before Cha Cruz stepped in to rescue the F2 Logistics from the brink of a loss.
Despite being on the bench for a substantial amount of time in the game, the seasoned veteran came in and proved to be the game-changer the Cargo Movers needed to light the fire in them.
With Petron leading 2-1 after the third set in Game 2, and with a nine point margin on their side, everything seemed gloomy for F2 Logistics. Yet Cruz came in the game and started a scoring barrage to force a fifth and deciding set.
Ms. Everything’ then teamed up with Maria Jose Perez to string together five straight points in the last set and clinch the match for F2 Logistics in a five-set thriller, 25-20, 24-26, 14-25, 25-19, 15-4.
Other than her leadership and heroic attempt to rally her team from behind, Cruz tallied a total of eight points in the game. Aby Maraño and Majoy Baron also had solid performances for the Cargo Movers with 12 and 10 points, respectively.
Petron, on the other end, relied on their imports Lindsay Stalzer and Hillary Hurley to carry much of the scoring load with 24 and 16 markers apiece.
F2 Logistics and Petron will have another crack at the marble on December 16, 4pm at the Mall of Asia Arena for Game 3 of the Finals.
