Courtesy of Rey Nambatac, the Collegio De San Juan De Letran Knights fought off the College of St. Benilde Blazers, 92-78, in Thursday afternoon NCAA on Tour action at the Letran Gym.
The Knights, who were trailing early in the game, leaned on their main man Nambatac who scored 15 points in the second period to bail them out of a nine-point deficit, as they led 43-38 at halftime.
Nambatac would be instrumental again in the final quarter as he helped orchestrate an 11-0 rally to start the period that posted the Knight’s biggest lead at that time at 77-66 with seven minutes remaining. Letran never let up from then on.
“Nagsimula lang talaga na gusto mag-pasikat ng mga bata kasi home crowd nga namin ‘to. Pero nung bumalik kami sa drawing board kami ulit at nag-regroup ‘yung mga bata, ‘dun namin nakuha talaga ‘yung rythm namin,” said Knights head coach Jeff Napa of his team’s rough start. “It’s a collective effort, a team effort.”
Nambatac led Napa’s team with 31 points, 11 rebounds, five assists and two steals while fellow veteran Bong Quinto chipped in with 14 markers and seven boards.
