Despite losing key players in the off season, the defending champions Petron Tri-Active spikers proved they are still contenders for the PSL All-Filipino title.
The Tri-Active spikers led by team captain Aiza Maizo-Pontillas made quick work of their tormentors in the 2015 PSL Grand Prix finals Foton Tornadoes in straight sets, 25-19, 25-17, 25-21, to kick-off their title defense at the Philippine Super Liga All Filipino Conference on Saturday at the Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.
Petron lost key players in Dindin Santiago-Manabat, Aby Marano, Rachel Ann Daquis, and Fille Cayetano but gained former Arellano spiker ans second overall pick CJ Rosario and FEU stalwarts Bernadeth Pons and Remy Palma. Manabat may be out of the season as she is due to give birth to her first child while Marano and Daquis have moved to other teams.
Pontillas led Petron with 16 points on 15 spikes while their FEU reinforcements Remy Palma and Bernadeth Pons scored 9 and 8 points respectively.
Jaja Santiago topscored for the Tornadoes with a measly 10 points as she struggled to hold to score against the defense of Petron. Cherry Rondina backed her up with 7 points.
