The National University Bulldogs makes a quick work on the UST Growling Tigers, 91-83, in the UAAP 80 Men’s Basketball Tournament on Sunday at the Filoil Flying V Centre.
The Bulldogs hands the Tigers their 10th loss in the season and they are already officially eliminated with still 4 games to go.
UST actually led by halftime, 43-40 but NU took control of the game during the third quarter, as Issa Gaye scored 10 points while Matt Salem dropped 9 points during the third period.
Matt Salem continued his hot shooting ways during the final period, as he scored 8 points during the payoff period, as the rest of the Bulldogs did just enough to pull out a closer-than-expected victory.
Issa Gaye and Matt Salem scored 22 points each for the Bulldogs and Jay Jay Alejandro and Nico Abatayo chipped in 10 points a-piece.
NU improves their Final Four chances, as they go up to 4-6.
Steve Akomo led the way for the Growling Tigers with 16 points, but was limited to just 3 points during the second half.
Marvin Lee scored 15 points, Wendell De Guzman added 14 points and Eric Caunan chipped in 11 points for the Black and Gold.
