UP Maroons snatch big win after lagging in the first half against a still-winless UE, 84-71, to post their second win of the season at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
Paul Desiderio entertained the Diliman crowd once again as he dropped big numbers, 28 points, 10 rebounds, an assist and a steal to post his career-high in the UAAP Men’s Basketball.
The Fighting Maroons had a slow start in the first half, allowing UE to lead by as much as fourteen points; afterwards the Diliman-squad was able to regain momentum and chase the lead to four and end at 38-42, in favor of UE.
The third quarter marked the heroics of Desiderio as he fired two triples to officially breakaway from UE, 53-48.
The Red Warriors were scrambling on the floor as they only posted seven compared to UP’s twenty-six in the third quarter alone.
With only 30 seconds left and UE trailing by 13—in this most crucial moment—the Warriors committed another turnover and gave UP the chance to celebrate with 84-71 final score.
Ibrahim Ouattara helped UP with 14 points, 18 rebounds and two blocks, while Jun Manzo dropped 10, and the Gomez de Liano brothers combined for 16.
UE’s Clark Derige contributed 21 points and 9 rebounds, while Mark Maloles, Alvin Pasaol and Mark Olayon had 16, 12, and 11 respectively.
The Warriors remain winless after three outings, while UP climbs to the third spot with 2-1 win loss record.
