Feisty Meralco Bolts Prove Too Much for San Miguel Beer to Book Semifinals Ticket

Meralco draw huge upset on then-second seeded San Miguel Beer, 106-99, on Saturday to book semifinals face-off against the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters in the 2015 PBA Governor’s Cup at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.

Coach Norman Black’s driven players made ways out of their comfort zones and stepped up to a whole new level to squat away the late comeback plotted by the Beermen.

Andre Emmett unloaded 28 points, 10 rebounds, and 4 assists, while recently acquired Kelly Nabong listed huge bench scores from his 15 markers and 12 rebounds.

Meralco came out in a finer shape in this winner-take-all quarterfinal meet against San Miguel, however, the Beermen were still in their high morale and erected an early 13-point lead over the Bolts.

Still, Meralco sustained the momentum on its side and drew boosters from Jared Dillinger and Kelly Nabong, who just came off the bench yet both provided the kills needed to eliminate the two-digit deficit and held the Beermen hanging en route to the final stretch.

San Miguel orchestrated a late fightback coming from the ever-reliable tower duo June Mar Fajardo and AZ Reid, but only saw themselves fell short as Meralco kept the defense tied on the duo.

Ronald Tubid provided the late 10 points out of his overall 15 points for the Beermen in the regulation and trimmed a 9-point gap, 99-90, but it was not enough to overturn Meralco’s fiery run.

Alongside Andre Emmett and Kelly Nabong, Jared Dillinger also dished 21 points for Meralco Bolts, who are set to face Rain or Shine on Monday in the semifinal match up.

Meanhwile, June Mar Fajardo delivered 30 points, 9 rebounds, and 3 assists, while AZ Reid added 21 points, 11 rebounds, and 6 assists for San Miguel Beermen.
