Tuesday game was bitter-sweet for San Miguel Beer as the erstwhile Philippine Cup champions came away with a 106-94 victory over Global Port, yet it was not enough to salvage a playoff chance for the Beermen in the 2015 PBA Commissioner’s Cup at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

San Miguel Beermen, who ill-fatedly dwelled on the rock-bottom cellar since the conference commenced, pulled off a splendid last-full show against the relentless Batang Pier to conclude their Commissioner’s Cup journey on a high note.

“The Kraken” June Mar Fajardo registered his usual double-double effort with 31 points and 19 rebounds to lead San Miguel Beer, who was completely wiped out from the playoff contention.

It was business as usual for the vicious Global Port as the squad went aboard an all-around attempt to contain the Beermen courtesy of slotman Caracter and the three-point killer Terrence Romeo.

Skilled as he was since day one, Romeo took the task of delivering triple shot attempts for the Batang Pier, but the suffocating presence of SMB’s Fajardo and import Arizona Reid rejected the moves necessary for Global Port to enjoy a bubble score lead.

San Miguel sustained the momentum to shackle the then-disoriented defense of Global Port inside the final 43 seconds of the endgame, and a back-to-back decisive three-pointers from Alex Cabagnot eventually sealed the bitter-sweet victory of San Miguel Beer.

The Beermen concluded an upsetting campaign with flying colors though, as they gave their solid supporters a final game victory to be proud of despite being unable to climb further to the next round.

Moreover, San Miguel Beer forged a three-way logjam for the 11th spot with Global Port and KIA Carnival on 4-7 records, however, Global Port Batang Pier still has an opportunity to nestle on the eighth place with a playoffs chance if Barangay Ginebra San Miguel eliminates Alaska Aces on Wednesday.

Import Arizona Reid finished with 20 points for San Miguel Beer while Chris Ross contributed 15 markers. In addition, Alex Cabagnot and Chris Lutz added 13 and 11, respectively.

On the other hand, Derrick Caracter paced the Batang Pier with 18 points and 19 rebounds while Terrence Romeo was limited to 15 points.
