MANILA — The Petron Blaze Spikers proved to be the queens of the Philippine Superliga All-Filipino Conference.
The high-intensity match up between Petron and the F2 Logistics Cargo Movers truly lived up to the hype as volleyball fans were treated with an action packed game on Thursday at the Filoil Flying V Arena. However, the Cargo Movers fell short against the tenacity and composure of the Blaze Spikers in five gruelling sets, 24-26, 26-24, 26-24, 23-25, 11-15.
Energetic spiker Sisi Rondina once again led the Blaze Spikers with 16 impact points as she unleashed her firepower off the bench. Seasoned veteran Aiza Maizo-Pontillas also turned back the time when she delivered for Petron when it was needed points. The former UST Golden Tigress stalwart scattered 14 points all throughout the game.
Yet one performance which probably hurt F2 Logistics the most is the inspired performance of Mika Reyes. The national team skipper, who was trained under the supervision of Cargo Movers Coach Ramil De Jesus during her collegiate days, was also previously a member of F2 Logistics before she made a surprise move to transfer to Petron. Reyes tallied eight points, including six blocks.
Unfortunately for the Cargo Movers, the re-emergence of lethal spiker Ara Galang was not enough to extend the series to a do-or-die Game 3. Galang top scored for the entire game with 20 points, supported by a strong performance by middle blockers Aby Maraño and Majoy Baron with 14 and 13 points, respectively.
Pontillas was hailed as the Most Valuable Player of the conference.
