Philippines starts AVC campaign with straight-set drubbing of Hong Kong

The Philippine Women’s National Volleyball Team overpowered Hong Kong in three consecutive sets. 25-21, 25-16, 25-17, in the 19th Asian Senior Women’s Volleyball Championship on Wednesday at the Alonte Sports Arena in Binan, Laguna.

‘The Phenom’ Alyssa Valdez led the scoring for PHI with 14 points, while Jaja Santiago added 13 markers and two blocks. Setter Kim Fajardo dished out 26 excellent sets

With a two-set advantage in the bag, Coach Francis Vicente’s squad continued to pound on Hong Kong. Valdez scored via an offspeed attack to give the Philippines an 18-10 edge in the third frame and the National Team never looked back.

No one from Hong Kong barged into double-figure scoring as Chim Wing Lang garnered only seven points.

The Filipina Volleybelles now hold a 1-0 record and are already headed to the quarterfinals after the Kazakhstan win against HKG earlier today.

PHI will face the Kazakhs on tomorrow, Friday at the same venue.
