Thanks to some late game heroics from Pape Sarr and Jerie Pingoy, the Adamson Soaring Falcons defeated the Arellano Chiefs, 61-56, in the main event of opening day of the Filoil Flying V Premier Cup, Monday evening at the Filoil Flying V center.
After a close low-scoring first four quarters, the Falcons were down by three 45-48 with less than a minute left until Pingoy, who replaced Rob Manalang after the latter fouled out, hit a clutch three-pointer with 20 seconds remaining and forced the game into overtime. In the extra period, Sarr and Pingoy scored Adamson’s last nine points with Pingoy scoring on back-to-back baskets in the final minute.
Pingoy, who is in his first year in Adamson after transferring from Ateneo, scored all his points in the clutch as he finished with seven points, three rebounds and three assists while the Cameroonian big man Sarr, on the other hand tallied nine markers and 18 boards.
