Caida Tiles remained untouchable on top of the 2016 PBA D-League Aspirants Cup standings as the Tile Masters cruised to their third straight victory past Wangs Basketball, 110-106, on Tuesday, at the FilOil Flying V Arena, San Juan.

The Tile Masters relied mostly on Arellano University gunner Jiovani Jalalon, whose 22-point performance provided the kills that Caida longed for to held on to the final minutes of the crucial stretch.

Stellar performances were also drawn from Jason Perkins, who chipped in a double-double aftermath of 19 markers and 14 boards, while Jonathan Grey had 17 kills for the unstained Caida Tile Masters.

Wangs Basketball, who just came from a breakout overtime victory against the ZC Mindanao Aguilas last week, put up another stronghold which gave Caida a hard time on some parts of the grindout, yet the powerhouse Tile Masters simply would not back down.

Coach Caloy Garcia’s wards piled up as much as 15 points in the third frame, but the bubble gap slowly faded midway through the finishing kick as untimely calls and miscues got the best of Caida which basically gave Wangs a light at the end of the tunnel.

Wangs forged a fightback and knotted the cards at 97-all, but no thanks to Jason Perkins’ clutch triple for Caida Tiles that crushed the tie with just two minutes left on the match.

Coach Pablo Lucas’ Wangs squad still poised for a backbreaking putback like what they had done against the ZC Mindanao Aguilas previously, however, the Tile Masters were unstoppable en route to their unstained 3-0 record.

Francis Munsayac, John Montemayor, and James Mangahas each had 18 points for Wangs Basketball, while Rey Publico and Gwyne Capacio combined for 27 markers, but their numbers went in vain as Wangs endured its 1-2 win-loss mark.
