Thirdy Ravena and Anton Asistio-combined efforts push Ateneo to the top of the UAAP league with three wins including today’s whipping of FEU, 94-82, Sunday evening at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
Ateneo played big early in the first period with back-to-back triples from Asistio and Ravena, plus a finishing touch from Isaac Go to close the quarter at 34-22.
FEU was able to trim the lead to seven from a Wendell Comboy open three, 45-52, which was hurriedly answered by an Asistio-basket and a split from Aaron Black.
Richard Escoto tried to land a triple at the buzzer but it came short, giving away the first half to Ateneo, 55-45.
The Blue Eagles’ dominance continued in the second half despite former Ateneo ROY and now FEU Big Man Arvin Tolentino’s eruption in the fourth period with 11 points.
Thirdy Ravena posted 18 markers and 11 rebounds with 5 assists, while Anton Asistio chipped-in 16 points, nine coming from three triples in the first period alone.
Wendell Comboy scored 12 points, all from threes with a 57% shooting rate; while FEU’s big men Prince Orizu and Tolentino each had 11; Ken Tuffin added 10 for this season’s host losing effort.
