De La Salle University stretched its winning run to two after refusing a tough rally by University of the East, 71-64, on Sunday in the UAAP Season 78 Men’s Basketball Division, at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
It was former San Beda Red Cubs star Andrei Caracut who sparked an 11-point blowout in the fourth quarter alone, which predominantly put the rhythm up for the Green Archers’ third win in five games.
La Salle had to reject the Red Warriors’ full-court press though, as Coach Derrick Pumaren’s red cagers found their way out of the loophole heading to the fading minutes of the Sunday match opener.
The Red Warriors lit up the fire momentarily on their side, yet Caracut’s red-hot shooting was simply unstoppable as it erected an instant 58-41 advance for the Green Archers.
La Salle’s new prized possession Andrei Caracut finished with an overall 16 markers, as veteran Jeron Teng also wounded up with the 16 points for the Taft-based Green Archers.
In addition, Larry Muyang also had his share of 11 points for De La Salle University.
Meanwhile, University of the East dropped to its 2-4 win-loss record despite Nick Abanto’s 14 points and RR De Leon’s 12 markers.
