San Beda trounced Arellano U, 25-22, 25-20, 22-25, 25-22, yesterday to clinch the last slot to the Final Four in the men’s division of the 91st NCAA volleyball tournament at The Arena in San Juan City.
The Lions, who were led by Mark Christian Enciso’s 19 hits, also arranged a Final Four meeting with the Emilio Aguinaldo Generals, the reigning titlists who repeated over the Perpetual Help Altas, 25-21, 20-25, 17-25, 19-25, to seal the top seeding.
Perpetual Help slid to No. 2 but still owns a twice-to-beat edge against No. 3 College of St. Benilde.
In juniors’ play, defending champion Perpetual Help slammed EAC with a vengeful 25-18, 27-25, 17-25, 25-13 triumph to take the No. 1 seeding and a Final Four showdown with San Sebastian, which claimed the final semis berth with a thrilling 25-16, 28-26, 20-25, 21-25, 15-11 win over Lyceum of the Phl U, needing just a win to barge into the best-of-three finals.
Darwin John Salopaso led all hitters with 13 hits while Ivan Encila, Ryuji Condred Etorma and team captain Jody Margaux Severo chipped in 12, 11 and 11, respectively.
EAC ended up with the No. 2 seeding and will play Arellano U in the other Final Four pairing needing also a triumph to advance.
