Courtesy of big games from Javee Mocon and Robert Bolick, the San Beda Red Lions fought off the San Sebastian College Golden Stags, 76-71, in the stepladder semifinals of NCAA Season 93, Tuesday afternoon at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay city.
The all-around forward Mocon had a monster performance as he finished with 23 points, 22 rebounds and five blocks while the spitfire guard Bolick hit 21 markers with five three-pointers to go along with four boards and four assists.
The Lions were guns ablaze out of the gates as they hit eight three-pointers just at halftime and got the Lions a lead that went as big as 18 points. The feisty Stags would not go quietly into the night however as they cut the deficit to as small as five points, 60-55, at the 8:13 mark of the fourth quarter thanks to lanky forward Jayson David who scored 10 points in the final period. San Beda however would finish the game strong courtesy of key baskets from Mocon, Bolick and Donald Tankoua.
David paced the Stags with 16 markers and seven boards while diminutive guard Ryan Costelo chipped in 15 points. Star forward Michael Calisaan 10 points and nine rebounds.
The San Beda win set up the Lions in a Finals matchup with the undefeated Lyceum of the University Philippines Pirates. Game one will be on Friday, November 10 at the Araneta Coliseum.
