San Miguel Beermen Says “It’s Raining Beer, Hallelujah!” after Sweep of Alaska to Hail as PBA Champions

From an unstained 13-0 record to a flawless 14-0 undefeated best-of-seven Finals appearance streak, and now a mission accomplished of 21 overall championships in its franchise history are what San Miguel Beer has after a four-game sweep of Alaska to conclude the 2015 PBA Governor’s Cup Finals.

The San Miguel Beermen are hailed the PBA Governor’s Cup 2015 Champions as they permanently trapped the Alaska Aces on the deepest insurmountable hole, 91-81, on Friday, in front of more than a 14,000 raging Smart-Araneta Coliseum spectators.

San Miguel Beer, a pioneer team in the Philippine’s professional basketball league, made history anew as it gets to take home two championships this season: the PBA All-Filipino Cup crown and now, the PBA Governor’s Cup crown. It then showed the classic team character of the Beermen despite being mauled by criticisms after an unfortunate run in the Commissioner’s Cup.

The classic team drew stellar performances from import Arizona “The Hardworker” Reid and back-to-back Season MVP June Mar “The Kraken” Fajardo to fuel the consistent indomitable stance of the Beermen after losing their Governor’s Cup first two games.

Alaska, on the other hand, looked well-poised and prepped up to have their grudge rematch against San Miguel – as the Aces lost to the Beermen in the Philippine Cup Finals match up – only to see the cards turning the other way around for them in the end.

The San Miguel Beer “two pairs of despair” proved that the Beermen will never really refuse to lose from start to finish and that they got it all covered: the Arwind Santos and Marcio Lassiter pair took charge of the three-point wings as well as the mid-range spots, while the suffocating pair of June Mar Fajardo and Arizona Reid heavily owned the paint.

It was Reid’s smooth and ringless baskets that eliminated the 14-point third canto deficiency of the Beermen, and since then set the stage for an Alaska collapse en route to San Miguel Beer’s 4-0 championship sweep.

The all-around import AZ Reid had his 33 points and 5 boards, followed by June Mar Fajardo’s double-double finish of 19 points and 21 rebounds. Marcio Lassiter also had it going for San Miguel with his 12 markers.

This Governor’s Cup Finals would be nothing without the mighty heart and bravery of Alaska, kudos to the Aces for a head-to-head execution of their own show from the start until they reached the Governor’s Cup Finals. Calvin Abueva led with 22 points, while import Romeo Travis came away with his 15 points to end Alaska’s Finals run.
