CLARK, Pampanga – Reigning Southeast Asian Games Triathlon medalists Nikko Huelgas and John “Rambo” Chicano lead local elites competing in the 2017 Powerman Philippines Asian Championship Presented by Summit Natural Drinking Water Sunday morning at the Clark Freeport Zone in Pampanga.
The 26-year old Chicano will vie for the title in the Powerman Classic (10Km run, 60Km bike, and 10Km run) race while SEAG Gold medalist Nikko Huelgas aims for another gold in the Powerman Short (5Km run, 30Km bike, and 5Km run) race.
Chicano will be joined by fellow Filipino Elites Joey delos Reyes and Cipriane Topia in the Powerman Classic race. They will be tested by top Aussie duathletes Thomas Bruins, currently ranked No. 2 in the Powerman world ranking, and No. 9 ranked Matt Smith. Malaysians Ziq Junaidy and Jason Loh will also compete for the Powerman Classic title.
In the distaff side, Japanese Airi Sawada and Australia’s Alexandra McDougall will vie for the women’s title as top local bet Monica Torres has begged off in the last minute due to health reasons.
A total of 1,127 duathletes have registered in the 2017 Powerman Philippines Asian Championship, which serves as a qualifying event for the next Powerman World Championships in Zofingen, Switzerland.
Adding color to this Run-Bike-Run event are local celebrities who signed up for the event. Gerald Anderson, Jake Cuenca and Kim Chiu are set to race as individual participants in the Powerman Classic event while couples Troy Montero and Aubrey Miles are doing the Powerman Classic relay. Singer Sitti Navarro is set to participate as a relay event of the Powerman Short category.
The 2017 Powerman Philippines Asian Championship Presented by Summit Natural Drinking Water is organized by F&F International Events Group and is backed by Clark Freeport Zone and NLEX-SCTEX as official venue partners.
